The Columnar Basalt Church

The Hallgrímskirkja is a stunning Lutheran church in Reykjavík. The most striking feature being the "wings" that step upwards towards the steeple. They are reminiscent of the kryptonite crystals in Superman movies but are actually based on a geologic feature called columnar basalts which are common in Iceland. I don't have a photo of them... yet but that's on the list. in the meantime you'll get the idea from this tumblr blog of columnar basalt photos.

There are some great views from the steeple. Just be prepared for some VERY loud chimes.
