I apologize for not posting more regularly here but last week was spent in Rancho Mirage, CA and there wasn't much spare time for market musings. While the global consciousness focusses on Michael Jackson, we note the passing of a brilliant and controversial American, Robert S. McNamara. While he didn't leave us songs that will entertain future generations, McNamara did have a critical role in American history. More importantly he was willing to discuss his role and how he came to his decisions in the documentary Deborah Shapely published a biography on McNamara and concluded it with:
"For better and worse McNamara shaped much in today's world -- and imprisoned himself. A little-known nineteenth century writer, P.W. Bornum, offers a summation: `We make our decisions. And then our decisions turn around and make us.'"
