McLendon founded Chesapeake (CHK) with $50,000 investment back in 1989 with partner Tom Ward. Shareholder Jan Fersing of Ft. Worth, Tx, created quite the stir when he harshly criticized McLendon's compensation package during the Q and A portion of the 2009 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. McLendon's passionate response
got some media attention. More recently, he faced a hostile student crowd that started chanting "frac you! frac you!".
