It looks like the Alberta political landscape may be due for one of its generational shifts. For most of my life (since 1971), the province has favoured the Progressive Conservatives. From 1935-1971 we always voted in the Social Credit Party of Alberta. That's how we roll in Alberta - all or nothing, no comebacks.
According to Wikipedia...
The Fraser Institute states that Alberta also has very high levels of economic freedom and rates Alberta as the freest economy in Canada, and the second freest economy amongst U.S. states and Canadian provinces.
Presently, Albertan's like freedom. They don't like being told what to do by politicians. They don't like change but when they make one it is usually for the long haul. The libertarian policies of the Wildrose Party are getting more traction those of the Progressive Conservatives.
A change is gonna come?
