Big Picture Fridays - Oilpatch Trivia

I always look forward to the trivia questions that accompany the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council Tech Alerts.  Here is their latest trivia question.

Q What U.S. well holds the title of the longest running oil well in the world?

Well No. 4, Pico Canyon Oil Field, California, drilled in 1876 and capped in 1990, had continuous operation for 114 years. The well spawned two boomtowns and was the first commercially successful oil well in the  western U.S. Well No. 4 was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
